Our Expertise
Phone Hacking
Our team has been instrumental in phone hacking, e-mail interception and computer hacking claims against tabloid newspapers, corporations and private individuals.
From December 2011 to July 2014, Mark Thomson was Lead Solicitor in the litigation against News Group Newspapers, ably assisted by Nicola McCann. The team also acted for a number of high-profile individuals, including Sienna Miller, Kelly Hoppen MBE, Jude Law, Hugh Grant, Jeff Brazier, Stephen Byers, Pete Doherty, Jamie Theakston, Paul O’Grady, Joan Hammell, Siobhain McDonagh MP, and Simon Hughes MP and brought the 2nd Tranche of the litigation (on behalf of 221 claimants) to a successful conclusion in 2014.
James Heath is the Lead Solicitor in the Mirror Newspapers Hacking Litigation. He acted for the claimants in 1st Wave of the litigation against Mirror Group Newspapers, which notably is the only case that went to trial in March 2015. James has been appointed Lead Solicitor for the claimants in the 2nd Wave of the litigation. In addition, he has successfully acted for an extremely large number of clients with telephone, e-mail and computer hacking claims, including James Nesbitt, Chris Tarrant, Lucy Taggart, Emma Noble, Leslie Grantham, Nicola Phillips, Ian Hurst, Darren Day, Sven Goran Ericsson, Matt Dawson, Tommy Sheridan and Lord Blencathra in addition to successful claims for libel including Sarah Thornton and Sylvia Henry.
Our team is actively pursuing numerous phone hacking claims against both MGN Limited and NGN Limited. However, as well as acting for victims of phone hacking against tabloid newspapers, our team has successfully acted in privacy injunctions, claims against private investigators, claims between private individuals, and appeals and Supreme Court hearings arising from hacking, other so- called ‘darks arts’ and other infringements of privacy. In the light of our experience, we receive a large volume of enquiries and instructions from a wide range of victims, other firms and interested parties.
